A BRIEF HISTORY
Andrea Marsh a Shiatsu Practitioner and Sam Johnstone a Virtual Assistant met at a local networking group. Both were looking for something different and had tried structured networking, holistic networking, casual networking, unisex, women's only, membership-led, turn up ad-hoc, business speakers, motivational talkers, and those that talk about their own journey. They knew what they type of group they wanted to attend but couldn’t find it and after chatting over a drink one day about they had a light bulb moment and WIN was born.
November 2018 saw the launch of WIN with a well known local business coach talking about getting the most out of Social Media platforms and the group has grown and gone from strength to strength since then. There are now new groups starting to pop up around the country and new WIN leaders are being sought.
ABOUT THE LEADERS
After working all her life for other organisations Sam became bored doing the same thing day in day out. Not being able to learn new things due to the restrictions of working in a particular role were frustrating and Sam knew she was capable of so much more. In 2017 Sam had had enough of being held back and took a leap of faith and set herself up as a freelance Virtual Assistant trading as Secretarial & Administration Management (S.A.M). Her business has seen continued growth and she now happily works with a wide variety of clients which include an Air Conditioning Company, some Life Coaches, a Wills and Probate business, Hair Salons and many more. As a qualified adult trainer, one of Sam’s passions and skills has always been training and helping others to learn so it was only natural that when she discovered a love of learning new software that she channelled that passion into her work and earlier in 2019 launched a series of ‘MailChimp for Beginners’ workshops. She is now taking her workshops into small businesses who want to send out newsletters and need to train their staff.
At the start of her journey, Sam was new to networking and found it a struggle to find a group where she felt comfortable, didn’t need to pay a fortune to be a member or attend. When other ladies came to her and said the same she decided to create her own group under the Ladies Who Latte umbrella and set up Cheltenham Ladies Who Latte. This runs from The Norwood Arms in Cheltenham on the second Thursday of each month from 10.00 am - 12.00 details can be found on Eventbrite.
Andrea is a Shiatsu Practitioner for people and dogs in the Cheltenham area of Gloucestershire, also recently specialising in helping women relieve their menopause symptoms with newly formed ‘Cotswold Menopause’. Andrea left her full time job in computer software 4 years ago and says her biggest regret is not networking as soon as she was self-employed. Spending over a year establishing her business she realised she was battling the feelings of isolation (and the perimenopause!) and this triggered her to take her first trepidatious steps into networking.
After trying structured networking, holistic networking, casual networking, unisex, women's only, membership-led, turn up ad hoc, business speakers, motivational talkers, and those that talk about their own journey Andrea started to form an idea of what kind of networking group she really wanted to attend. Still fairly new to networking she didn’t know how to go about creating a group, then she met Sam and they had a lightbulb moment!
